Brantford, ON – As people gather across the country to remember the sacrifices of Canada’s war veterans, New Democrats are also pausing to offer words of appreciation and solidarity to those who have and continue to serve.
“It is our time to honour and respect those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Individuals and families in Brant Riding have made these sacrifices for generations. We thank them and reflect on their contributions to our country and our world,” said Federal NDP Candidate Marc Laferriere.
As a past member of the 56th Field Regiment, former provincial and federal Brant NDP candidate Brian Van Tilborg knows the importance of supporting all members of the Canadian military both past and present.
“We must remember the sacrifices that our troops have made to provide all of us with the freedoms that we have in this country,” commented Van Tillborg. “As our military continues to protect our freedoms in conflicts around the world, we honour them today, as we should every day.”
Former Brant NDP MP Derek Blackburn served as the NDP defense spokesperson from 1984-1990. During that time, he learned first-hand the sacrifices made by the men and women of our Canadian military.
“We can never do enough to thank our veterans for the sacrifices they have made on battlefields worldwide,” Blackburn said. “What they have done for us must never be forgotten.”
Nationally, members of the party from across the country are emphasizing the need to move ahead in showing our continued support for our soldiers and our veterans.
“This is an important time for us to come together as a country and renew our support for the work that Canadian soldiers have done, and are doing, for our country. Our troops fight for us and we’re committed to creating a system that fights for them,” stated Sackville-Eastern Shore MP and New Democrat Veterans Affairs critic Peter Stoffer.
Members of the Brant NDP will be attending services throughout Brant Riding this morning.
