HARDWORKING, DEPENDABLE, ACCESSIBLE
A very exciting few weeks are ahead of us. A lot is happening in our community and I wanted to provide a quick update for everyone. Click the images for more information about any of the events.
- Saturday April 24th we have the FIRST EVER YOUNG NEW DEMOCRATS DODGEBALL TORNAMENT. This is a FREE event, with FREE pizza and prizes too.
- Monday April 26th I will be a GUEST RING ANNOUNCER for what promises to be a very fun evening in support of cancer research at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Six Nations at 6:30 pm. You never know what will happen as we get together to “Lay The Smackdown On Cancer” in memory of Rosanne Wyman.
Look for appearances by Tatanka, Hillbilly Jim, Brutus The Barber Beefcake, Doink The Clown, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, The Highlanders, Steve Corino and many more. Music from None The Wyzer, Own Up, and Six Nations Rockers.
- Tuesday April 27th I’ll be appearing on Rogers Cable 20 from 8-9pm for Talk Local. The issue being discussed that night on the show is local poverty. Please JOIN US by watching the show and calling (519) 759-7711 to make a comment or ask a question!
- Wednesday April 28th as a pre-cursor to Mental Health Week Open Forums will be exploring the topic of mental health with a panel and community discussion at the Brantford Arts Block at 6:30pm.
- Friday April 30th is Community Health Day at the Grand River Community Health Centre. 347 Colborne St. 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
This day will highlight the importance of equitable community health care with the focus that everyone matters. Local dignitaries, health assessments, tours of the centre, refreshments, an announcement of new services and several prizes to be won.
- Saturday May 1st is MAYDAY FOR MENTAL HEALTH at Harmony Square from 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm. I have been lucky enough to work with lead organizer & consumer advocate Karyn Graham on this project for months to bring this event to Brantford. Great music, a magician, speakers, spoken word, a kids corner and more!
- The entire first week of May is Mental Health Week. There are numerous events all over the area brining awareness, education, and resources to the area. Having been a member of the Mental Health Week Committee this year I can tell you that this team has created a GREAT week of events.
- Saturday May 8th The Brant/Brantford Roundtable on Poverty presents Harvest Noon.
This is another of the roundtable’s free community meals to create awareness of poverty issues in this area while providing nourishment and entertainment.
So whatever your tastes are there is a lot going on in this community over the next few weeks. If you have anything to add just send us an e-mail. Can’t wait to see you out there.
Sincerely,
MARC LAFERRIERE MSW, RSW
