On January 22, 2011 Brant NDP Federal Candidate Marc Laferriere was joined by Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus for a series of community meetings. This was the latest of many "Local Ideas Listening Tours" set up by the industrious Laferriere and his team in Brant Riding.

Angus and Laferriere started the day at Six Nations for the first ever public screening of the Shannen's Dream Documentary at JC Hill Elementary School. Following that discussion on fairness for aboriginal youth education both New Democrat politicians headed into Brantford for a series of town hall style meetings on topics such as Arts as an Economic Driver, Heritage, and Net Neutrality and Usage Based Billing.

The evening was capped with a special musical fundraiser at the Station Coffee House and Gallery featuring performances by Angus (a two time Juno Nominee himself), award winning singer/songwriter Ian Reid, Brantford's own Tyler Wilson, the BCI folk inspired Terra Cotta and Laferriere himself.

Federal New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton joined Brant Federal New Democrat Candidate Marc Laferriere at Ontario Provincial Council this afternoon to announce that the riding of Brant has won phase one of the Local Victories Membership Challenge. 

The announcement continues to shed light on the work of the team in Brant, and the support the campaign has gained in recent months.

In April, Brant received a similar ‘Local Victories’ honour, as it was revealed that the local riding association was the number one fundraiser in Ontario. This summer, as a result of these accomplishments, and the hard work and dedication of volunteers in Brant, the riding association was named as the Most Improved riding in all of Canada.

On October 15, 2010 Canada Without Poverty Presented the First Ever "Poverty and Punchlines" Event.

In this video the MC for the evening Steve Patterson (CBC's The Debaters) introduces CWP Board Member Marc Laferriere who talks about the work of CWP this year and some of the issues occuring in his home area of Brantford.

Marc then introduces CWP Hon. Director Ed Broadbent who speaks to the realistic ways we can end poverty in Canada.

Marc was one of the many folks on site during a three days of Solidarity for the ECP Striking Workers.  This strike has shamefully gone on for over 2 years.  Marc was on hand during an incident which became front page news as a replacement worker bus made an attempt to get through the line.

Marc and Federal New Democrat Health Critic Megan Leslie engage with a group of local residents in Brantford and Brant to talk about Health Care.  We talk about the phase two of medicare, ways to fund more effective health care, home care and a universal drug plan among many other issues.
